# Map footage availability and playback audit — October 22, 2026

## What was missing from the interface

The map's film selector exposed only the 18 scene-review films. Thirteen
additional recovered full camera exports were linked from standalone source
review; the original fifteen exports were in the local package. Screenshot
cards linked to source files but could not play those sources inside the card.
This made available moving footage look like still-only coverage.

Both screenshot cards now offer **Play video from this frame** in the card
header, or by clicking the image. This opens native video playback inside that
card at its displayed source offset. The map pauses at the same time. Video
playback is independent of map time; changing map time or the displayed source
stops it. **Show screenshot** returns to the extracted frame.

The map's **All archived videos** selector now includes every local route/video
research asset, grouped by role. The original 18-film / 256-frame library is
still independently browsable; no new timed sighting is inferred from availability.

## Local inventory

`audit_map_videos.py` scans local research video containers, hashes each included
file, checks existing archived hashes where available, probes its duration and
checks every screenshot-window and source-review video reference against the
index. Machine-readable paths, hashes, URLs/credits and exclusions:
[`../map-video-library.json`](../map-video-library.json).

| Group | Playable files |
|---|---:|
| Full camera recordings | 28 |
| Scene-review films | 18 |
| Derived clips (original-source and earlier synchronized review) | 16 |
| Reporting-context films | 2 |
| Presentation/reporting renditions | 5 |
| Generated map preview | 1 |
| **Total** | **70** |

**74 containers audited; zero missing referenced videos.** The four explicitly
excluded containers are three family/interview biography videos outside the
surveillance desk, and the FBI acquisition MKV whose playable MP4 counterpart
is included. No media was deleted or moved. Different encodings/review clips
can reuse the same footage; 70 does not mean 70 different cameras or scenes.

All ten sampled nominal-camera windows and all 18 scene films have underlying
video available. Nine route-reference scenes can play their corresponding film
from the displayed offset. Both NW and hoodie cards support this playback.
Longer full exports without a confirmed subject match remain available under
Full camera recordings; their availability does not add a confirmed sighting.

## Remaining coverage limits

Earlier D/South Capitol and Ivy sightings, New Jersey/E and parts of the RNC
approach/placement still lack established original-clock matches. Public edits
do contain DNC bench, residential and alley/courtyard material, but their clock
calibration, original private-camera identities and continuous handoffs are not
resolved. The three residential minute labels and tentative post-Rumsey lead
remain publisher/author context. See [supplied-media review](supplied-x-media-review.md).

## Verification

Chromium decoded and sought all 70 indexed videos, tested in-card playback at
all ten reviewed camera windows and nine route contexts, and verified unchanged
map time, source paths and return-to-screenshot behavior. Existing checks
selected/decoded all 256 scene frames and exercised the 411 nominal samples,
angle changes, race protection, 14 images, two context films and mobile layout.
The compact latest-report-only top-left cell overlay was checked for 80%
opacity, position, seeking, simultaneous-report grouping, rewind/reset and layer
toggle. Pin labels are Cell 1–5; sectors B/C resolve to different cells despite
sharing an address.
